Mithi river flows through the heart of Mumbai for a 120km stretch from Powai to the Arabian Sea. A portion of Mithi River flows through the high end commercial district of Bandra Kurla Complex which is home to the US Embassy and corporate HQs of leading banks and business houses. MMRDA wanted to clean the river that gets floating trash from various nallahs that let out into the river. All this trash and untreated sewage gives the river a dirty look and this waste is ultimately let out into the sea from where it washes up on to the beaches. We deployed HDPE trash booms to arrest the floating trash and prevent it from flowing down towards the sea and two river trash skimmers to collect this trash and transfer it to land so that it could be sent to the dumping ground for further processing. During low tide we also deploy 20 labour for manual cleaning in those areas where the machines cannot access
